Hello to our fan-tastic Mighties!

We’ve got another jam-packed update for you, Mighties, including our monthly fan art parade, some long-awaited forum event results, new project fund incentives and more! (There’s always an important reward-related notice at the bottom, make sure to check it out!)

CRAZY FOR RAY

While autumn’s given way to winter over here in Osaka, we still have plenty of time in November to catch some Rays! After our potential DLC announcement the Beckers have been giving 110%, cranking out some awesome fan art with their usual gusto!

We can’t get enough of your work, Mighties! And speaking of your work, our very own lead character designer KIMOKIMO has something to share with you all…

ROBOT DESIGN CONTEST RESULTS!

KIMOKIMO: Long time no see, everyone! It’s been a while, but we’re finally ready to present the results of the KIMOKIMO CUP!

It’s already been a month and a half since the end of Mighty Month, huh? And if some of you out there have been wondering what’s taken me so long to finish polishing up the winning designs... well,I-I have no idea what you’re talking about!

Alright, the truth is we had everything ready to go back in mid-October. But as you know, we had something pretty important to show you back then, didn’t we? Hence we had to push back the results presentation, for which you have my sincerest apologies!

Despite the lack of prizes for the contest, I’m so grateful to see all of the people that participated in the KIMOKIMO CUP! This event came about first and foremost from a desire to relive the enthusiasm from the Kickstarter campaign. The initial idea was to take some of the basic, rough ideas we received and brush them up, but the entries we received were of such startlingly high quality there was almost nothing for us to do! Kind of bittersweet, really...

I was floored by all of the robots representative of countries and states I had little to no personal knowledge of. Quebec in particular; with all of the info I got from the 11(!) Quebec robot entries, I know as much about the region as if I’d gone there myself! In the world of Mighty No. 9, I’d imagine Quebec is quite a hotspot for robot production.

Now then, on with the show!

●KIMOKIMO CUP Part 1: Fire or Ice

We kept the first week’s theme simple and sweet: Fire or Ice! Having presented the contest out of the blue, and in tandem with the start of beta access, I only expected about 10 entries or so… only to be wowed by over 50 entries for the contest!

The theme yielded many designs centered around these powers, and seeing these elements balanced together with features representative of individual countries made these designs quite popular among the comcept staff.

These six designs struck an especially good balance, making it easy to imagine how each one would move and function.

Inafune-san chose a design that he thought would make the grade with just a bit more elbow grease.* So which design did he choose?

Congrats to Mighty No. 36731 KurowaSan, whose design got an INAFKING interpretation of its own! Bet some of you saw this coming, huh?

●Advice from Inafune

- Since it’s a pineapple, the face should be carved out of the fruit!

- Make the legs look like a pineapple tree to maintain theme consistency

- The arm-mounted weapon could use a bit more work, take another look at it

- Adding a leaf front skirt could make it Hawaiian?

Inafune-san’s updated design reflects this advice. You can see the INAFKING touch almost immediately! And to top everything off, here’s my Mighty Numbers-style rendition!

What do you think?

- I refined it with Inafune-san’s feedback in mind

- I tried changing the arm weapon to hand grenades

- I added some zig-zags to the legs with the idea of making it a common motif among Hawaiian robots

The pineapple exterior acts like a bulletproof vest, and it can flail its arms to rain explosives on opponents! Inafune-san gave it the INAFKING seal of approval at first glance (one of my favorite parts of the job, to be honest).

I hope all of you like what I did with it! Fingers crossed I get to see some cool fan art in the future.

I was told not to make this update too long, so we’ll save the week 2 results for the next update! We asked backers to put more emphasis on their own countries from the second week onwards, so we got a bunch of really interesting designs. Hope you look forward to seeing which ones get tapped for a brush-up next time!

As a final aside, I was surprised to see how… well, KIMOKIMO-like the above 2 designs were. I’d like to give them a go myself!

See you next time!

*A note on the designs:

1) These designs aren’t being presented in any particular order,

2) The designs refined by Inafune-san aren’t the “best designs”, per se, more like designs he thought needed a little extra something to be even better,

 3) We ended up prioritizing designs that were both easier to refine and best matching contest specifications.

There you have it, Beckers! Big thanks to KIMOKIMO, and we hope you’re all excited to see what’s in store for the remaining 3 phases!

Now we hate to break the art theme, but we need your help to help… well, everyone!

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Quite a lot, actually, when it comes to getting 70,000+ of them into a staff roll!

As you know, everyone that got a Mighty No. is going to get that number and their name in the Mighty No. 9 credits. We’re sending out a survey over the next couple days to collect backer name info, so check your inbox!

■Guidelines

・Deadline: Thursday, November 27th @ 12:00am PST

・Format: Email Survey

If you're on SurveyMonkey's opt-out list, please opt-in here to get your email. If you still haven't gotten an email by the end of Saturday, November 23rd, you can email backerpoll@comcept.jp, subject "Missing Staff Roll Name Email" and we will try to get you squared away ASAP!

And that wraps up another Communi-Day! We take it you found it very… hair-Ray-sing, yes!? … Alright, enough of that. But what we DON’T have enough of is your great contributions! More, please give us MORE! And as always, send us your feedback here in the comments, back on the forums, on Twitter, or our official Facebook page! We love to hear from you!

Keep Ray-sing the bar, Mighties!! (`_´)ゞ

New Project Fund Incentives

I'm really sorry, I don't want to be 'that guy' or rude and I'm sure it's just me over looking something but, new project fund incentives, does that mean new rewards for Slacker Backers supporting the Ray DLC? Again, I'm really sorry, I'm sure I've just overlooked the info' or misunderstood. Thanks. : )
