-Mighty No. 9チーム

There are so many poisonous

There are so many poisonous people here saying "don't ruin it with English"... Hey! Why not just put it in the language of the majority of people who would play this game so it sounds good to THEM instead of going the anime nerd route where nothing is good unless it's in the exact same language as the people who made it in the first place? Then, if there happens to be more Japanese speakers, so be it. But if you're going to be all "I want it in a language I don't understand because I LOOOOOOOOVE ANIME" Then why don't you throw a few thousand down towards getting both?

That's sort of a huge

That's sort of a huge negative generalization and insult to many people you know nothing about. Everyone has their reasons. In my personal experience if I get into an anime with Japanese voice acting (the first 140 episodes of Naruto) then it comes to the US later. The English voice actors 90% of the time, miss the mark. Maybe they did a rush job, but they lacked the emotion and resolve of the originals. Turn a serious deep moment (JP) into a Saturday morning slap stick comedy kids show (EN). I could not watch more than 2 minutes. But then there are also well done English dubs. Take all the Miyazaki movies for example. Top notch English voice acting. So again, hit or miss, but 90% of the time it's a miss. No, it's because I'm an anime nerd. It's because, omg, it's horribly done in English for whatever reasons. In the end, I don't care which one it is, but make it good.

It matters less to me if it's a new project (Mighty No 9) than if it is a long running show with characters I grew to love later getting screwed up by bad re-enacting English dubs.

Addressing Actual Dub Concerns

That's a huge strawman you made, there. Most anime-fans' ACTUAL argument appears to be that the Japanese creators can offer better voice direction in their native language, which is a problem in English localizations of many anime and games where the characters are given voices their creators never intended or the localization budgets didn't allow for the caliber of acting attention that the original (Japanese) dub got.

I'd say that second issue is moot, here, however, because whatever dub is selected for this game will be the "original dub". And  for the first point, we've seen an original dub that WAS English for Japanese anime and games before: Dark Souls II, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodust, and various Mario games, so it is safe to assume a good English dub is possible here, assuming the budget we have is more than sufficient for the amount of voicework the creators have in mind.

As far as other, aesthetic, concerns of whether one language "fits" better with the visuals or not, I think either language would do, here.

I prefer Japaness,

I prefer Japaness,
but I also anticipate English version a lot, too!
Would you please make both of them.......Nope? Ok, bye.....

Actually It is very hard desicion for me.
Because I'm not good at Japaness, but I feel more comfortable than English....You can guess, Yes, I've watched many many anime's!!
In contrast, Good of much school  education, English is more understandable, but I can not feel familiar than Japaness.......
Oh~ God, Why did you give me difficult desicion like this.....It is the first time that I felt sad that I'm not the living one of Jap or Eng using country!!

Ah, what a pain...

Almost everyone here seems to have some bias towards English dubbing do to the fact that it may make the game sound bad or something. Sure, the game may or may not sound bad in English but have you considered the fact that the game may sound just as bad in Japanese as it would in English? Of course probably not, but I'm just saying. Normally, I wouldn't mind the game in either languages or both for that matter. But since we may not be able reach that point and have to chose between English or Japanese, I would prefer the game in English since the majority of everyone is one the other side of the fence, plus I don't like having to constantly stop all the time and read the dialog since it take up time. Sure, chances are that the English voice acting may go bad but I've heard voice acting much worse (MMX7) so I'm prepared for what's to come.

Japanese please!

Its a Japanese developed game so it should be Japanese voice acting, not English.  I have been playing video games for nearly 30 years, a lot of that was spent playing imported SNES, Megadrive, Saturn and Playstation games.  In that time one thing was constant, anytime a game was dubbed into English it was aweful with only the odd excpetion (Metal Gear Solid for instance).

When a Japanese voice actor provides their talent they treat it like any other role they would do, they put passion and spirit into each line and you can feel it in the delivery.  When its dubbed into English we end up with the Saturday morning cartoon style acting, grown adults trying to sound like squeeky kids, embarassing delivery of important lines and an inability to sound emotionally convincing.

For an example that is as close to this game as i can get, look at Megaman/Rockman 8 on the PSX, the Japanese voice overs are head and shoulders above the English actors.  I understand that not everyone will agree but for me, for a game developed by a totally Japanese team that has an anime asthetic, it feels more authentic for it to be voiced in Japanese too.

hmmm hard to decided but i

hmmm hard to decided but i would prefer to have both worlds honestly.

I mean English or Japanese voice acting is fine, is just that certain companies just looks for anyone with no experiecne or sometimes cast people that don't fill the bill and just makes the dub as is and don't care for quality of it. a very good example of this would be Capcom's dubbing of MMX7 in english... UGH!!! that is terrible, but then if you look at the casting group for the MMX command mission and MMX8 later on they sound incredible and fit perfectly to the characters.

Its the same thing with the Japanese voice acting, i mean they have this character thats awesome and badass but his/her voice sound out of place. An example to this would be the Japanese Goku version from the DBZ series, granted his been voice by an old lady but Goku is a big guy and he still sounds like a little 8 year old kid. Yet if we compare to the guy doing the voice of Goku in the american version it sounds better and fits better.

Now my only concern for both sides is how the voice acting from experience to quality is gonna be?. If we are gonna get either side then im expecting not to hear beck with a voice of a little girl. if this is gonna be the end result i prefer to have no voice acting.

Also the sad part about the choice is that no matter what happens, one side will get the voice of there choice but the other will have to read it to understand what is going on which is gonna break the moment. This is also contributed by the fact that backer here are not just Japanese or English as well, but there are also those that speak Spanish, French ect.

So to be honest at the end i wil have to say pass on the voice acting even though i would love to hear it. So although i recive the e-mail im not gonna vote for neither of the 2.

No voice acting, instead make the subs for it.

Japanese or no dub

Please don't ruin this great game with english dubs...It's a japanese game so it should be in japanese or at least no dubs.

Hm...

I'm "that person" who speaks both and compares dubs for fun. Who the actors are and the voice-direction matter for either language.

I get the impression they'll still have the textbox-and-portrait messages seen thus far, so you can think of the audio as an extra. (No scrolling marquee messages, please!)

Since this will be the "original dub" either way, you will likely not have the "crappy dub syndrome" that probably results from domestication company budgets and separation from the original creators.

If most confirmed future players are indeed English speakers, English makes sense, but I'm skeptical of how well the original creators can voice-direct a language they may not speak well.

Work in both?

Ridiculous idea, but perhaps worth a mention: In Star Wars and rarely in Adventure Time, people converse in different languages to each other. What if some characters spoke in English and others in Japanese? Would this mean all computers speak one way and non-computers another? Or one or two characters speak differently than the others?

I hope, for the betterment of

I hope, for the betterment of the game, that the voice acting is in English. I get that many of the backers love the Japanese language (it definitelty is a very intense and beautiful language), but having English voice acting will both broaden the appeal of the game in terms of people it can reach (given that English is a very international language) and provide for a better gameplay experience (since the majority of the players will not be struggling in order to attempt to read and understand the text). This is my personal opinnion and I hope that my input is taken into consideration.

English

English Please, I already listen to, too much Japanese I dont understand watching fansubs on anime.

If there is Japanese blasting over gameplay. I would just want to turn it off. It would be very distracting.

English voices

From a gameplay stand point I think english voices would be the better choice. Having japanese voices doesn't really fix the problem of " stop playing to read", because you would still have to stop to read what the characters are saying in order to understand them, and that just completely breaks the momentum of the game. When I played the beta I didn't read a sigle word of the dialog, because I was focusing on surviving through the levels, and it made me understand more of the importance of having voices. So my vote will go towards english.

But other wise either one is OK with me. I'm just glad we're getting voices to the game!

Japanese Voices for me.

Though I can understand wanting to have only english voice acting for this game, I feel it would fit in alot better with Japanese voice acting.

There have been alot of games that have suffered from terrible english voice acting when sent overseas to the American audience, so personally I'd rather it just be Japanese through and through. It was developed in Japan, so I find no reason to be so forceful towards it being englished. There's normally always some disconnect with the characters when their voices are translated over for me. Look at Megaman 8 for comparison. I still enjoyed that game, but gosh did the english voice acting get bothersome from time to time.

Furthermore, tons of people have been playing games for years with english text/subtitles. It shouldn't take away that much from the action, plus when enemies are talking trash or whatever they do during gameplay, you don't really need to know what they're saying anyway. It's not that important. What is important is that they sound like how they should sound to the best of the voice actor's ability. ...I like hearing the personality of the character more than the literary correctness of what's being said.

Imagine getting it in english voices like you'd want it, but the characters don't sound right as a resut. That'd be a bigger ruiner to the game than not being able to instantly understand what small talk is being said. The worst that could happen with english voices is that the game sounds terribly over exaggerated or terriby disconnected. The worse that coud happen with Japanese voices is that you have to read some subtitle that's still better than old fashioned Megaman X script boxes that pop up.

Ruined characters with innacurrate mouth movement-to-voice coordination or just a bit of extra reading....

still...regardless, I'm still playing hapilly whichever way it goes. Just jump'n'shooting my opinion out there. Hope more funds come in though.

English voices

English voices would probably serve more purpose with the text at the screen. Although its relative to the audience ofcourse. I do have faith that you would probably get decent voice actors. Edit: plus with a cartoon coming out (I heard?), it could help make a better connection. Edit again: its a shame it came down to this. Maybe if enough money is made when the game is for sale, they could pull a Bioshock Infinite and add voice pack for the language that doesn't get chosen.

They never said anything

They never said anything about using American voice actors. Also, there are some great English voice actors out there like Troy Baker, Nolan North, Tara Strong, etc. I'm sure the English voice acting will be fine in this game.
